- Oceanic whitetip sharks are stunning creatures with large, stocky bodies. They are inquisitive, and will approach divers, coming surprisingly close. Sadly their numbers are drastically declining because their large fins are highly valued as the chief ingredient of shark fin soup and, as with other shark species, the whitetip faces mounting fishing pressure throughout its range. Taken whilst diving in the Red Sea off Egypt's Sinai Peninsular.
