Pausing here and there, I breathe the earth's aroma – musty, musky – rising from the rot, that slow decay that feeds the forest, shards of sunlight illuminating ferns and fungi, squirrels and sparrows. The elemental truth of the placid grove awaits. So, when I stand encircled by those lofty guardians of green, I raise my eyes to the canopy of leaves and through their living lattice glimpse the gods at play. ~ © 2012 RC deWinter
