© 2011 RC deWinter ~ All Rights Reserved _________________________________________________________________________________ My Last Roses (Mother’s Day 2009) _________________________________________________________________________________ I had no child anymore; you never made to gift me well, but on that day you brought me these, all stained with blues and cream and pink. _________________________________________________________________________________ I could not parse the meaning here, why you would spend so lavishly, but I was grateful and surprised and blushing, kissed you like a girl. _________________________________________________________________________________ ‘Tis only now that time has flown and I look here, at roses caught in that brief moment, I can see the message you conveyed with these. _________________________________________________________________________________ For white in roses means a death, and death indeed was what you brought: ‘twas one year’s grace before you left, a measure of your cruelty. ~ © 2011 RC deWinter
