Saturday Night at The Colonnade
________________________________________________________________________________
Last night I danced and danced some more
My shoes alight with girlish grace
I twirled and spun across the floor
A smile of freedom on my face.
________________________________________________________________________________
Not caring who my partner was
My limbs as loose as limbs could be
I tossed my hair back just because
It felt so welcome to be me.
________________________________________________________________________________
And when the throbbing rhythm slowed
A blackclad stranger claimed a turn
The iridescent candles glowed
He held me close enough to burn.
________________________________________________________________________________
The unfamiliar press of flesh
Against my length and breadth entire
Awoke the sleeping wish to mesh
Myself with you within that fire.
________________________________________________________________________________
But you are far from my embrace
And little likely, truth be told
To turn about and clear a place
To let my love for you unfold.
________________________________________________________________________________
So dance I shall with who may ask
And close my eyes when in their arms,
Pretending you are ‘neath the mask
Entwining ‘round me all your charms. ~ © 2011 RC deWinter
