the persistence of industry
________________________________________________________________________________
make things we must. grow things we must.
in truth, we do not make or grow enough to keep
the hands of willing workers thus engaged.
________________________________________________________________________________
and though we know the awful consequence of waste,
of littering the earth with what we leave in heaps and stacks,
we wade more deeply in the river of denial,
________________________________________________________________________________
as if, by magick, poison’s charmed away
to some dark place.
as if, through our great power
________________________________________________________________________________
earth will cleanse itself of our disgrace. ~ © 2011 RC deWinter
