Artist Notes
“The Sun spirit woke Raven while darkness still covered the land and explained to him the rules for holding the light in the sky. ‘You must not walk too quickly, for you could burn the Earth below and cause great terror,’ said the Sun and placed the light in Raven’s hands. This is the 5th in my Raven Series of the Haida myth, using a Parhelia (a rainbow around the sun) to represent the light in the sky. Once again the Raven is deliberately not depicted as a 3 dimensional bird, but a portal deity into the heavens.
