Just a few days prior to the Quiksilver In Memory of Eddie Aikau Invitational Big Wave Surfing Competition local and international surfers were practicing for the event in huge Waimea Bay surf. A giant storm system to the northwest of the Hawaiian Islands was producing large winter swells on Oahu's North Shore and top surfers took this opportunity to fine tune their skills for the upcoming contest.
