- This is just one area of the hospital, which was the first one in Alachua County, Florida (Gainesville) I have friends who were born here back in the late 40's. It was torn down this year, after the University of Florida had bought it a few years back and tried to salvage it. Costs are the culprit. The property is now being raised to build a new research facility.
