- I've been asked at several festivals about paintings of oil wells and rigs. While it hasn't been a subject I have considered painting before, I thought why not see what I can come up with. The newer derricks and rigs just didn't provide enough inspiration for me to do them justice...ah, but the old wooden derricks with their shanty shack pump houses made interesting subjects. In this painting I wanted to contrast the old buildings against a bright colorful sky to give it a more dramatic effect...
