Mistress Hawise Crossley, never one to be reticent with words, give what-for to her soldier husband Jack, just returned from the Crusades under Richard Lion-Heart, as they meander home from the local alehouse.
It seems that Jack was a being just a bit over-attentive to the flirtatious serving-wench at the The Old Dog, at which he, Hawise, and a group of village friends celebrated his safe return. Jack is just tipsy enough to be making fun of Hawser's ranting by making clucking noises and imitating a squawking chicken with his right hand - but before the night is over Jack may wish he was back with Richard on the Crusade.
