The small water feature in the backyard home / studio garden is a treasure trove of material for Dan in all seasons. The winter of 2007 brought frigid enough temperatures that the waterfall froze almost completely to a halt. Seizing the opportunity, Dan ran in and out of the Studio to thaw his almost frozen fingers as he ferverishly worked to capture the ice forms growing down the fall's rocks and through the surface of the pond. He is astonished still at the image the frozen waterfall offered up without him even realizing it until downloading and processing the image files. Dan later learned that a young girl, late in the 19th century when the property was the town bakery, enjoyed coming to the garden to play. She even carved here name in the brick just outside the studio's rear door. Amelia's spirit still inahabits the garden and makes these ocaissional, albeit brief, appearances. The garden and all of its contents are a constant source of inspiration and a National Wildlife Federation Certified Backyard Habitat.
